Safe, Strong, and Free Child Assault Prevention Guidelines
Presented by Cheryl Mojta of NJ CAP

THIS WORKSHOP IS GEARED TO MENTAL HEALTH PROFFESSIONALS
9:30-10:00 a.m.
Welcome, Breakfast
10:00a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Workshop by Cheryl Mojta
Coffee and cake will be served.
Location:
Jewish Education Center
Elizabeth, NJ
This is a two hour workshop given by CAP facilitators for mental health professionals. The training includes an overview of assault, a detailed explanation of the classroom workshop, information on characteristics of abused children, active listening guidelines for dealing with a child in crisis, community resources and referrals for reporting abuse, and legal rights and responsibilities of staff members who report abuse or neglect. Attention will be given to NJ State Law on this subject.
The Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Project originated in 1978, in Columbus, Ohio and is presently disseminated nationwide by the International Center for Assault Prevention. In 1984, CAP was chosen as a state prevention program for New Jersey by the Governor’s Task Force on child Abuse and Neglect. Since then over 2.5 million children have been trained by CAP. It is recognized by the Task Force as “the most comprehensive prevention program in the country today.”
Cheryl Mojta is the Director of Operations for New Jersey Child Assault Prevention (NJ-CAP).
NJ-CAP views Child Assault Prevention as a many tiered program. They offer comprehensive workshops for classroom teachers, mental health professionals, parents, and students from preschool to teenagers. In addition they offer training programs for special needs students. They help students learn three empowerment skills: self-assertiveness, secure peer support, and telling a trusted adult.
