Administrative Assistant, Yachad

Yachad, The National Jewish Council on Disabilities, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual for an administrative position. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the day-to-day functioning of a nonprofit organization
  • General administrative projects
  • Assisting with organization billing functions and managing timely payment of bills
  • Assisting families of developmentally disabled individuals in acquiring funding from various state-run programs
  • Following up with funding agencies on the application progress of our individuals
  • Fostering relationships between Yachad and potential new families
  • Tremendous room for growth within a growing organization

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Some bookkeeping experience preferred
  • A desire to improve the lives of individuals with special needs
  • Familiarity with Medicaid Waiver and ACCES/VESID services helpful
  • Some clerical experience preferred

Position is currently Part time but could lead to Full Time.

Position Summary: Work with individuals out of Brooklyn facility and at job sites in order to help them increase independence and work towards personal goals. Positions available in Brooklyn and Manhattan—up to 28 hours/week.

  • Working one-on-one with individuals as well as leading group sessions
  • Job Coaching at training and various work sites
  • Monitoring individuals goals and progress
  • Providing social skills training in individual and group settings
  • Training individuals to independently navigate public transportation systems

Job Requirements:

  • A desire to work with adults with disabilities
  • Ability to provide positive motivation to others
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Must be caring, dedicated, responsible, and patient

Yachad Community Habilitation Workers

Work one-on-one with developmentally disabled individuals in order to facilitate community inclusion and work towards personal goals. Part time positions available in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Long Island. Schedule is very flexible, evening and weekend hours available.

Responsibilities include:

  • Working directly with individuals in their home or out in the community
  • Planning and implementing activities that help foster independence and promote community involvement
  • Helping individuals develop social and relationship-building skills
  • Supporting individuals in developing and achieving personal goals
  • Completing paperwork to track an individual’s monthly progress and monitor their work towards specific goals
  • Modeling productive and appropriate behavior for the individuals you work with

Yachad 2015 Summer Social Work Clinical Associates

Yachad/National Jewish Council for Disabilities has one of the most prestigious and exclusive social work development/employment opportunities in the country.  Hundreds of applicants between their first and second years of social work graduate school programs from around the country compete for only 5 spots in the Summer Social Work Program, based out of the agency’s international headquarters in Bowling Green area of New York City.  A $1,000 stipend is awarded.  Graduate students accepted into this program are not considered interns or students, but are instead expected to work at the agency and contribute to the functioning of diverse programming under the mentorship of an established and accomplished career social worker.  Participants will be assigned to agency programs, projects, and divisions that match one or more of their career goals, including: Clinical and Direct Practice; Leadership and Organizational Management; Development; Research; Advocacy; Community Organizing;  Policy; and Disability Studies.

Commitment:

  • 3 months
  • May (start date TBD) through August (end date TBD)
  • 21 to 24 hours per week
